REVIEW: Alone in the Dark

August 1st, 2008
Mark Julio

Eden Games and Atari have teamed up with one common goal… Taking fear to a new level… In many ways, they have done just that… But not without a few hitches.  Alone in the Dark returns to home consoles with the fifth entry in the series.  For the uninformed, the AitD games were the precursor to the semi-modern day survival horror genre which gave birth to classic titles such as Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Dino Crisis, and tons more… Click below for our spoiler free review!

The Ant Commandos just dropped off their latest product to us, a PS2 to PS3 converter! While mainly marketed for use with guitar controllers and use with Rock Band & Guitar Hero III, we couldn’t help to test it out with Tekken and our weapons of choice… You know how much we love our arcade sticks, so we were itchin’ to test this new converter out with all of our games and arcade sticks! Check out our dual review of it below!

“If you could kill a few to spare a thousand, would you?”

This is age-old question of ethics vs. morality is the cornerstone of Ubisoft’s latest triumph, Assassin’s Creed.

REVIEW: Super Mario Galaxy

November 14th, 2007
Mark Julio

It has been years since I have been in awe with a console Mario game. Actually, now that I think about it… It has been over a DECADE. Not since Super Mario 64 (Sept. 1996) have I felt the Mario magic that I’ve grown up with throughout my years. With my doubts held high and my intentions good, I ventured forth into a new galaxy with Mario’s newest game. Which just so happened to be my new favorite Mario game ever made…

REVIEW: Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles

October 28th, 2007
Mark Julio

What a horrible night to have a curse… On the PSP! Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles brings something that fans have been wanting for over a decade, a chance to play Akumajou Dracula X: Chi No Rondo, better known as Castlevania: Rondo of Blood… But that’s not all. IGA and the fine folks at Konami not only revamped Rondo in 2.5D stylings, but they’re also including the original PCE-CD version of Rondo, AND a reworked Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as well… All on one UMD! *SCHWING* Check out our review after the jump!

REVIEW: The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

October 3rd, 2007
Mark Julio

Without a doubt, the Zelda series of games are amongst the most highly regarded in gaming… Zelda games always push the envelope while maintaining the same tried and true formula… But what if we take the traditional Zelda gameplay and put it on the Nintendo DS?! Using only a stylus to control our lil’ green hero is definitely something different… But does it work? It does… Amazingly well…

REVIEW: Persona 3 (PS2)

August 14th, 2007
Mark Julio

It’s been a long wait for Persona fans, but Persona 3 is finally here! Taking a different stylistic approach to the series, the third installment is filled with a gripping story and tons of life like experiences from a typical Japanese high school student. I’ll say it now, before you even read it… Persona 3, so far, is my gaming experience of 2007! Click below to read the full review!

Parasyte: An Old, Forgotten Friend Comes Back

August 3rd, 2007
cursedfrogurt

It’s probably the best manga you don’t remember reading. First released way back in the mid-to-late 90s in the manga magazine Mixxzine, published by what would later become TOKYOPOP, “Parasyte” was arguably the most substantial of the now-defunct mag’s releases. Now Del Rey has taken upon themselves to release it, what does High Score think? Read on and find out!

REVIEW: Gals Games & Gacha Gacha

May 14th, 2007

In Tatsuhiko Takimoto’s Welcome to the NHK, the hapless protagonist is given the task of creating the plot of a new pornographic video game. What he ultimately develops is a battle-robot maid who terminally ill, blind and paralyzed maid-robot who was a lover of the game’s main character in a past life. The end result is an epic-level knock against the ludicrously convoluted plotlines that are so common in Japanese H-games.

Sapphically Sucktacular

May 10th, 2007
cursedfrogurt

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube videoHow in blazes does a show about lesbian priestesses using giant robots to fight off ancient demons seem so mind-numbingly generic? Watching Kannazuki no Miko (aka Destiny of Shrine Maiden), brings that question screaming into mind time and time again.

The storyline is nothing more than a gumbo of clichés from countless other shows; likewise, the characters are nothing more than pretty ciphers who serve no purpose other than to carry the aforementioned storyline. The end result of this weak foundation is a show that intrigues only because manages to be so mediocre.

REVIEW: Puzzle Quest

April 26th, 2007

Puzzle Quest DS

After hearing how the Penny Arcade guys freaked out over this, I figured it was worth a look. So I spent most of Sunday driving around my town to find a Gamestop that had a copy in stock, and played it for a few hours straight, getting a massive headache in the process. This was after playing it for several hours, of course.
